The 1983 Bathurst 1000 took place as part of Round 4 of the 1983 Australian Endurance Championship and was contested over 163 laps of the 6.172 km circuit. The Holden Dealer Team took a controversial, but legal, victory with the team’s second Holden VH Commodore driven by John Harvey, Peter Brock and Larry Perkins. Harvey and Phil Brock qualified the car but after the sister car blew its engine on lap 8, Brock and Perkins transferred themselves into Harvey’s car. The car was also the car which Peter Brock and Larry Perkins had won the race in 1982 and updated to 1983 specs, meaning this Holden Commodore became the first race car to win the Bathurst 1000 twice. The Holden Dealer Team Commodore finished a lap ahead of Allan Moffat and Japanese driver Yoshimi Katayama in their Mazda RX-7. Third was the Holden Commodore driven by Allan Grice and Colin Bond. Already a champion water skier, Tony Longhurst made the switch to Touring Car racing in 1983 with Sydney privateer Mike Burgmann. They raced the Chevrolet Z28 Camaro at the 1983 Bathurst 1000, a race Longhurst went on to win twice in his career. Burgmann was also making his first Bathurst start in 1983 driving the ex-Kevin Bartlett Chevrolet Z28 Camaro with Tony Longhurst. After qualifying the big Chev in 21st, the car suffered numerous problems on race day and the pair only finished 121 of the 163 laps which was not enough to be classified as a finisher.

Item includes certificate and production number plate, mounted to the chassis.
