Holden A9X Torana 1978 Bathurst

For the 1978 Bathurst 1000 John Harvey teamed up with Charlie O’Brien in the sister car to the number 05 car driven by Peter Brock and Jim Richards of the Holden Dealer Team. Harvey and O’Brien’s number 15 Holden A9X Torana was only able to qualify in 11th place on the starting grid for the Great Race.
Holden A9X Toranas took the top two places in Australia’s premier race for “production” saloons. After holding second place during the early stages, Peter Brock and his co-driver Jim Richards went on to dominate the endurance race around the daunting, four-mile Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst. At the finish, their Torana was over a lap clear of the similar car shared by Allan Grice and John Leffler, Murray Carter and Graeme Lawrence were the first Ford crew home, bringing their Falcon into third place three laps behind the winners.
Harvey and O’Brien could only manage 19th place overall and completed 139 laps of the 163 lap race.
