With the introduction of the L34 Torana in 1974, the 1975 Australian Touring Car Championship series was basically loaded with L34s despite their reliability never being high. The season started at Symmons Plains and was headed by a HDT L34 Torana, but not with Peter Brock driving. Brock had decided to part with the team and became a privateer. It was only too easy for team manager Harry Firth to give the drive to Colin Bond, who started his racing career in 1964, being successful in both circuit racing and rallying simultaneously. This caught Harry Firth's eye and he quickly invited Bond to join the team in 1969.
Throughout the 1975 races, the Torana had shown that the Ford had better reliablity and the L34 could drop out in all kind of problems, but not with Bond at Symmons Plains. He took the pole in Round 1, lapping in 61.0s, 4.1 seconds faster than the previous year's pole, but taking the flag that race lapping 1.9s slower. Though, in the subsequent rounds Bond was not without problems with his Torana, but it did not trouble him in Round 6, which was planned at Sandown but cancelled and held at Adelaide International Raceway. Bond led the entire race from pole, set the fastest lap and won. At Lakeside, the final round, Brock took the pole, but Bond led the entire race and won the championship title by 16 points.
