The 1992 Bathurst 1000 (Tooheys 1000) was the 33rd running of the Bathurst 1000 Touring Car race and was held on 4 October 1992, at the Mount Panorama Circuit just outside Bathurst.
Win Percy and Allan Grice's No.16 Holden Racing Team Holden VP Commodore started the weekend off on Saturday showing good pace, qualifying 10th for the Tooheys Top 10 with a lap time of 2:16.13 and then later positioning themselves in 7th place on the starting grid for the Great Race on Sunday with a Tooheys Top 10 lap time of 2:16.215
The race was won for the second year in a row by Jim Richards and Mark Skaife driving a Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R. Richards and Skaife were declared the winners after a rain storm swept across the track in the closing stages, causing many accidents in conditions deemed by race officials as too dangerous to continue. The race results were issued as at the end of the 143rd lap and a race time of just over 6 hours and 27 minutes, 18 laps short of the full race distance. The Dick Johnson and John Bowe Ford Sierra RS500 was classified in second position with Richards and Skaife's team mates Anders Olofsson and Neil Crompton also in a Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R being classified in third position.
Not far behind them, in fifth position, was the Holden VP Commodore of Win Percy and Allan Grice who drove a consistent race in the treacherous conditions, completing 141 of the 143 race laps.
This race was notable for the winning car being crashed and undrivable at the race's conclusion. Due to heavy rain a large number of crashes occurred towards the end of the race leading to the race being stopped during the leader's 144th lap, requiring a windback to the completed 143rd lap.
