Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1 1974 Touring Car Championship Winner

The 1974 Australian Touring Car Championship promised great things.
Alan Moffat and Ford were in a strong position following their performance in the 1973 season and at the same time the Holden Dealer Team Torana LJ XU-1 and Peter Brock proved to be the rising strength. Alan Moffat, still fast and without factory help, was forecast as the biggest challenge to Brock and HDT. There were many promising privateers racing, like Bob Morris, Dick Johnson and Bob Jane; most in XU-1's, so Holden's presence on the starting grid in 1974 overwhelmed Ford. In fact only two Fords 'of any model' were on the Symmons Plains starting grid. So it's not surprising Toranas dominated the 1974 ATCC. Peter Brock was to have an outstanding year, taking pole position and setting fastest the race lap many times throughout the season. One of pure domination, Peter Brock and the HDT won five of the seven rounds, an amazing achievement earning him the Championship title in 1974.
